Randomly noting that my simple Go automated tests finish in .15s on Windows native, and .001s via WSL (same as in Linux native).

.15s is pretty darn fast, but those are pretty darn simple tests. Probably hitting near the end of my “VS Code + native toolkit” dev workflow experiment.

Big-ass terminal in Linux or WSL, as is proper.

@mwl Absolutely no way. Not at the same time. You’ll have at least .25s to go “oh hey here comes the other one”

#NoMansSky is light years across and two inches deep

“Alien lifeforms offer rewards for a huge array of new planetary missions, with objectives specific to the alien’s personality, as well as their home planet’s climate, geography and ecology.”

Okay maybe three inches deep now. Cool.

When even the VC firms are tired of AI autocomplete and chat buddies.

Basically they’re as gung-ho on generative AI as ever, but would like to see some actual product ideas please. Very little about locally hosted and DIY. I am shocked. Shocked! Okay, not that shocked.

Includes handy infographics for products and tools to learn and / or ignore as per your own AI inclinations.

@mekkaokereke Oh god no Frank Herbert was writing Serious Stuff. Big flashy sign saying “AUTHOR’S MESSAGE” every ten pages. His dad was a utopian, and Herbert himself was this weird libertarian romanticizing exotic culture every chance he got.

He spent years trying to get it published. His wife put her writing career on hold to support them. GOSH HOW OFTEN DOES THAT HAPPEN? Anyways yeah he was pretty intentional.

well lucky me i started getting the spam that smells like llm

You know what I mean? Perfect grammar is the first dead giveaway. The sentences are well-structured if somewhat light on actual content — small talk basically — and yet the links feel mad-libbed in.

@Probertd8 I don’t think so, but I think it would be improved by an electronic beat.

@WuMargaret Saw Time Bandits when I was nine. Weird kid me loved it, but goodness did it leave me with a lot to chew on.

Always been curious how kids way outside the Gen-X bracket would perceive it.

hackers.town: 2024-02-10 Sat 09:29

@WuMargaret and Close Encounters is yet another 1970s movie where if there’s a kid, they’re doing something the adults have no idea how to relate to. Channeling Satan, murdering the neighbors, or in this case just hanging out with aliens,

Not saying none of those, but mostly neurospicy as it turns out.

@Johannab I’d say it’s better now, but while technically true it feels more accurate to say “it’s possible now.”

@mjgardner @deafferret@octodon.social Well I wouldn’t expect you to be! But the “legalize it and tax it” argument can be compelling to some.

I tend to be more frustrated about how the tax money gets spent than about whether it gets taxed at all. We’re big fans in Washington state of adding some kind of sin tax, promising recovery services or similar, and instead spending the tax money on a stadium or a tunnel.
