The somewhat disorienting experience of opening a Microsoft Word document in LibreOffice (7.5) and it looking exactly like it did in Word.

@Macross Good idea. My Linux desktop is entirely too functional today. Very suspicious.

I miss when Glassdoor was just the “talk shit about your boss” site.

Granted that was a long time ago. But now it wants me to job hunt on their site?

@ceejbot knowing where to start tomorrow is half the battle trying to fall asleep tonight.

Doing some Notion learning and so many little frustrations and me going “I could fix them.”

Which no I don’t think I could. These frustrations are based on philosophical differences, not technical issues.

You don’t make formula entry so tedious unless you don’t want people writing funky formulae.

New TweetDeck’s in.

And there’s a tab I won’t be opening again for a while.

Felt like cleaning up my LinkedIn history while I was at it, and oh heck that was a lot of editing. I’ve been dumping half-finished resume material there for years.

hackers.town: 2023-02-10 Fri 09:49

@WuMargaret It’s been just over a month since my employer shut down. I totally understand the need for some grieving time, for lack of a better word.

hackers.town: 2023-02-10 Fri 10:28

@WuMargaret hey if I can dish out the social media over share on friends, I can take the social media over share from friends.

Me: “I don’t think I like Raft.”

Then goes on to play it for three hours.

Sure would be nice if it had a pause though.

@bentsai same. I’ll be grabbing the wiki sources in my digital hoarding later, just in case.

hackers.town: 2023-02-08 Wed 10:56

@misterjoshua It’s all markdown files in my git repo, so if the VSCode extension stopped working?

Probably either throw together my own clumsy CLI frontend for a similar workflow, or import it into Obsidian / nb and refactor there. Heck, could use Pandoc and turn them to Org files if I really wanted.

Between Neovim, WezTerm, and AwesomeWM, I’m starting to understand Lua.

hackers.town: 2023-02-07 Tue 15:47

Liking Lua may or may not come later, but I can read it.

And I like it better than JavaScript already, so there’s that.

hackers.town: 2023-02-07 Tue 15:59

@nosherwan to be fair, I have really weird tastes.

hackers.town: 2023-02-07 Tue 16:01

@genehack That is a puzzle. Taco Bell would be the likeliest for change sifting based on personal memory, but then again I didn’t have a car at the time.

Speaking of overengineered, my tangled dotfile config is now tangling the dotbot configuration for how to install things and the justfile that drives tangling.

I can’t stop and consider whether this is a good idea. I’m making too much progress!

hackers.town: 2023-02-02 Thu 15:13

@tek I’ll take a closer look at that later for sure! For now Dotbot seems to play well with the output of a Yarner tangle run — I do love to talk about my code.
