@mjgardner @pdcawley Linux on Intel Mac is a less fraught prospect in 2023 than it was in oh say 2015, last time I tried it. Heck, I hear it’s almost working well on Apple Silicon lately!

I’m not gonna find out for myself though.

@gizmomathboy @deafferret@octodon.social I mean if you can export it to some kind of parseable structure like JSON, YAML, XML, CSV — scripting can take care of the rest.

Being very true to form, in that I started an outline on a blog series idea for #SiYuanNote — awesome tool, rather intimidating for this non-Chinese-reading person. But text outline felt too constrained for this morning’s mood so I broke out #KinopioClub.

I always forget how fun Kinopio is. So that’s another blog idea.

Concept map describing tutorial blog series on SiYuan Note concepts, with breakout block about AWS S3. To the side, a thinking face emoji is placed near a task item for exploring Kinopio’s API.

Disappointed but unsurprised to see folks add AI chatbots to their products and services with about the same amount of forethought and caution that they used for Web advertising.

In the process of migrating my blog to a new host and initial rsync reminded me how much heavy lifting up front is involved in a static Web site.

454 MB of files! Course, for a site that’s been up since 2001 or so that’s only like 20MB per year.

That’s like — what — a Gatsby blog with three posts?

Though I’m getting a crash a few frames in on saved or new games. Hopefully that works out soon.

Logseq’s automatic git commit apparently doesn’t cope well with heavy edit sessions. Ended up with dangling commits and had to reset the branch.

@tithonium Absolutely! How much of an infodump are you looking for? I can do a better job of showing off scars than presenting recipes for success.

hackers.town: 2023-02-21 Tue 15:50

@tithonium Yep, I can help with that! Pretty flexible on schedule too, at least so far.

Is there a manual?

Good lord but I am easily pleased. Add a corner-radius value to picom.conf and I got my precious rounded corners in #Qtile.

showing browser, Emacs, and terminal windows with slightly rounded corners after applying corner-radius = 6

@suzannealdrich federated timeline is so nice. I’ve gotten some great insight about new folks to follow, and occasionally insight about folks I may not want to follow after all.

Promising initial feedback on a mostly-Django opportunity, so guess I’ll be doing myself a little Django refresher this weekend before the tech screen.

Just enough so I don’t trip over my own words, because it’s been about a year.

Twice in that job screen call I made a joke along the lines of “ask me about my knowledge management systems” in a note-taking context and they never did.

Smart folks to avoid the infodump trap.

@thegibson “shut up I’m trying to watch Seinfeld”

Sometimes it’s void in taste too

Fire up a Web app which I forgot was via Edge, which pops up a window introducing the new Bing and telling me to chat and create. When I’m at a search engine I don’t want a chat I want a selection of search results I can evaluate for fucking relevance, which all the search engines are getting wrong lately.

@ramsey big part of why I stick to editors over IDEs. No moral superiority here, I just want roughly the same level of support for whatever language I play with this week. Pycharm is great for Python, good for JavaScript. Raku? GDScript? The Lua for my AwesomeWM config? Um.

So I take syntax highlighting and some LSP support in nvim and I say “thank you.”
