@tek @erosdiscordia yep yep. “Macho” was a big thing when I was a kid, and I didn’t like any of that. Macho men were jerks. I decided I was as comfortable as I was gonna be growing up as a man, but I would decide what that looked like for me.
Identity’s not a binary or even a spectrum, but some funky hypersphere. I’m just always glad to meet people who’ve examined themselves all the way to ana and kata.

@twobraids @mhoye throwing in a “me too” to counterbalance the “works on my system” notes.
Desktop PC with NVidia, so I got some flakiness. But mostly it’s mental friction. I hate throwing away decades’ worth of useful abstractions and functionality.

@forrestbrazeal @masukomi I mean the copilot-type coding assistants have been helpful as a sort of autocomplete, with the same benefits and shortcomings.

Comcast: we’ve started working on the network. You’ll experience outages.
Me: oh cool I’ll let my boss know because everything’s on the other side of a VPN and— hello? Hello?

Thought I wouldn’t use Fossil’s ticket tracking for my site repo, but 30 minutes in and I’m using it to track a couple tasks for the current thing.

So anyways Internet came back up around 2:30pm, long enough for any productive urge to completely fade.

Installed the Tasks plugin for Obsidian and the raw tasks query got 2,006 results. not done got 869.
But hey that means I finished or gave up or gave myself some kind of closure on over half my (acknowledged) tasks!

just marking them all done like “C, C, C, C, C”

All the game stuff is “good enough” in Linux (thanks to Proton), and all the CLI dev stuff is “good enough” in Windows (thanks to WSL), and the apps are equally awful regardless of desktop choice (thanks to Electron), so it doesn’t really matter which I boot into on any given day.

No snow but with this playlist it’s sure as hell a white Christmas.
hackers.town: 2023-12-25 Mon 09:18
Keep in mind I picked and am playing this playlist. I’ve no pretensions of smug superiority about my holiday music tastes.

Site sources are currently all messed up, as part of a year-end organization process which after many hours over several days, will result in the site content being slightly differently messed up.

We went to a loud place with people and it was enjoyable — once I put my earplugs in as recommended by the very smart @IamMrsGeek — but now in true neurospicy brain fashion I need at least an hour of decompression time before I can give serious consideration to sleep.

@Wrewdison @IamMrsGeek I used to think it was the introvert / extrovert thing until I examined a little closer and realized that’s not a helpful metric for my social needs. Which is what ended up with me getting evaluated for ADHD, so it all worked out in the end.

Set myself up with a proper sourcehut account for a generally available but not Git(Hub|Lab|ea) repository host.

@profoundlynerdy I am minutes in, so can’t give you a proper eval. First impressions are good. Supports git and hg, encourages but doesn’t require project-oriented collection of repos, bug tracking and mailing lists if you want them.
Kinda minimalist UI, but after the last decade of change at GitHub I’m okay with that.

I should bookmark this so I can boost myself as needed. Need to be careful though. Don’t want to throw my shoulder out patting myself on the back too hard.

@socketwench I think of my blog posts as sort of rubber ducking my way through a problem, concept, or personal struggle. Organizing them into something suitable for communication helps sort them out in my brain.
